Making Love Based on Nothing at All (song)

Everybody loves love. The entire world's population all has that desire to love and be loved- to have someone to hold and talk to and care for and to know that this person does the same for them. It's been said that we need love like the air we breathe. Yet some find that air supply in the wrong way. Some don't really want love and the lifelong commitment that comes with it in the context of marriage- the union of one man and one woman to each other that God designed. Some people just want sex for their pleasure and want to enjoy it with anyone and everyone and don't want to deal with the consequences that come with sin. This is the ideal generations have grown up with, learning to give out "love" for free, but The Bible makes clear that love always has a price. It costs something of us to truly love one another with the romantic love of eros. It demands a lifetime commitment which we recognize with the ceremony and vows taken in holy matrimony before God and man. And then when our culture is betrayed by the values society has taught us, finding that "free love" also brings abuse and rape and abandonment of parental duties, we seem so perplexed to understand why. When we follow the pattern that Jesus has shown us, we are delivered from so much pain. Let's model our love on the love He showed for us by dying for us to pay for our sins and rising again. (Romans 5:8) Instead of making love based on nothing at all, let's keep love based on the standard God has set. (Philippians 2) It's really He who causes any of us to know true love or to truly love one another at all.

"Making Love Based on Nothing at All"
(parody of "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" by Air Supply; copyright by Nathan Ludwick 12/31/2017)
(1 Corinthians 13, Song of Solomon [or Song of Songs] 8:6-7, Philippians 2, Hebrews 13:1-8, 1 Corinthians 6-7, Ephesians 5, Exodus 20, Deuteronomy 5, John 3, Matthew 5:27-32, 1 John 4 [particularly verse 8 and verses 18-19])

You know just how God whispers
Even though you disavow the Christ
You know just where to find The Answer
But I know you love the lie
You know just how to fake it
And you know just how to scheme
I know just why you hate The Truth
'Cause it exposes your sins- come clean!
And I know that when he touches you
Even though his lines are smooth
I know when he pulls you closer
You don't know when he'll let you loose
And I know it's right hard waiting
In YOLO zeitgeist- live your life!
The world's never gonna give you everything that God will give you
Don't you know nothing really satisfies?
And I know the word "virgin" is
The world's open mark of shame
They ignore all the rules and when sin shows out and breaks 'em
Then they always go and lay out the blame
But it won't go to libido
That's been messed up by The Fall
And I mourn for how they do it

Making love based on nothing at all
Making love when there's no ring that's on
Breaking God's Ten Commandments- The Law!
Taking love out- a sex free-for-all!
Hey, "free love" 's always lying- it costs!
Babe, real love takes commitment- your all!
But your "love" 's based on nothing at all!

And the line 19 in chapter 4 of 1 John says
We love due to God's for us first
And you see love is defined by God, verse 8 says
When Christ died for unright(eous)
Redeeming Love- 1 Corinthians 13 Love
If we're goodniks without love then we're through
You can make like prophets, know all mysteries sought
And burn out like a beacon but if loveless- for naught
'Cause love's not arrogant, rude, envying with boasts
Not wrongdoing- rejoices with The Truth

Its own way denies- stays humble
Irritated it is not
Undertakes every weight, it's hope is found through all things and
Believes all- an all-enduring rock!
Love- verse 8- it lasts forever!
Prophecies (and) knowledge disappear just like tongues
And now faith, hope and love just abide- they all remain
You know the greatest of these three now is Love
But whenever you make love without Truth
What you really want is sex for free- no cost
We're delivered so much pain when first- "I do"

We're in love- matrimony- it calls
Hey, true love waits 'til rings are put on
Babe, real love waits to first tie the knot
Hey, "free love" 's always lying- it costs
Herpes, AIDS, Gonorrhea, et. al.
Maybe not- but STDs aren't all
Taints your love for everyone you hold
You can't love them as your one above all
Chaste, pure love's not a gift you can give
Faking love just like Blanche Devereaux
Making love a slut and open case for all
Shape your love like Dorothy's wise calls
Like her mom, spout truth but lovingly now
Make your love St. Olaf's innocent Rose
Golden Girls- Rose of Sharon beats all!
Proved His love- made Him nothing for all
He is God! Became servant of all
Died for love! Rose up third day, you all
Make your love Philippians 2 style
Make your love based on God's love for all!

Hooked on a Tree Limb (song)

Note: Here's another one from the archives. This song came to mind today when someone mentioned not hearing the original one in a while until the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie made it popular again. Since I previously posted parody song lyrics that told about the fall of David and subsequently his family due to his sin with Bathsheba, I thought this might be a nice follow-up song, as this one talks more about that family fallout that David went through. And by the way, I love B.J. Thomas [a great Christian artist known for "Home Where We Belong", as well as "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" :-)], but this Blue Suede's version. So enjoy (or pretend to do so anyway) another one. :-)

I don't want to step on anyone's feelings or their blue suede shoes, so no disrespect to Absalom here. But yeah- this song is from his point of view, but there's also an omniscient narrator thing going here, as David's reaction to the death of his son bears a resemblance to another Father who mourned for His creation.

"Hooked on a Tree Limb"

(parody of “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Suede; copyright by Nathan Ludwick 5/26/2013)

(2 Samuel 11-24 [specifically chapters 13-18], 2 Samuel 18:33, Luke 13:34, Romans 5:8])

[Ooh-Ab-sa-lom, ooh-Ab-sa-lom, ooh-Ab-sa-lom! x5]
(fades in background, but continues through first verse)

I can’t stop this spearing

Deep inside of me

Well, I just now realize

What this did to me

Overthrowing

With an armed turf fight

To get me crowned

As the King of Israel-ites! (iiiitttess!)

([Ooh-Ab-sa-lom, ooh-Ab-sa-lom, ooh-Ab-sa-lom!] ceases)

(But) I’m hooked on a tree limb

I’m high like the ceiling

They sure will rub out me!

It’s a complete tragedy

(It’s)David’s sin multiplied

Swirled up lots of hurting

Me and my brother wound up dying

Look it up- 2[Two] Samuel
 11- Read to end
I just ain’t a victim

Also am (a) villain

All my good looks

Befit me for the throne

Sweeping up folks

Like a politician,

(now) I-I-I-I’m

Hooked on a tree limb

I’ve lied and deceived them

Joab ignored the king

(Instrumental interlude)

[Ooh-Ab-sa-lom, Ooh-Ab-sa-lom, Ooh-Ab-sa-lom! resumes]

Dad gave me love

I tried to take his throne

Weeping for me

Yet I did you so wrong

[Ooh-Ab-sa-lom, Ooh-Ab-sa-lom, Ooh-Ab-sa-lom! ceases]

I-I-I…. I’m hooked on a tree limb

I died from the spearing

It’s sure a sad ending

But look at Dave’s weeping

Reminds me of Jesus

34 in Luke 13

God had Him nailed on a tree then

When you and I were just sinners

He’s sure in love with us!

{Christ booked me for Heaven

And His rise means we’ll rise then

Romans 5:8- go read!}

{repeat}
 (and fade)

Hope From Disaster (song)

One of the many things I love about God is that He is the God of redemption. He takes seemingly hopeless situations and somehow manages to bring good out of them. He takes the vilest sinner and redeems them and uses them for good things when they come to Him in repentance. He even takes unrepentant sinners and still uses them for His purposes. (See Romans 9 for a great review on that as God used the unGodly Pharaoh to accomplish His goals.) Of course, as 1 Corinthians 1 tells us, God delights in using the foolish of the world to shame the wise and the weak to shame the strong. He can take hopeless odds and create victory even out of defeat- so that we know this power comes from God and not ourselves. (2 Corinthians 4:7) Even when someone feels buried in defeat from their own sin, God can take that man or woman from a low place and raise them back up to the heights. This song talks about just such a case, with a sad falling of one of Israel's greatest leaders- King David. And even though he suffered greatly for his sin of adultery and murder- all of which started with lusting after Bathsheba and plotting to kill Uriah- God still used his line to bring the Messiah about- and specifically- through a son David had with Bathsheba after he had taken her as his wife. It doesn't mean God condoned David's actions, but it does mean that God still makes all things work together for good- to the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

"Hope From Disaster"
(parody of "Copa Cabana" by Barry Manilow)
(parody song lyrics copyright Nathan Ludwick 10/31/2015)
(2 Samuel 11-12, Exodus 20:13-14, Proverbs 5:15-22, Song of Solomon 4:12, 1 Kings 15:4-5, Psalms 51, Matthew 1:6, Romans 1:1-6, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, Hebrews 11:32)

Her name's Bathsheba- she let it show, girl
This fellow saw her bathing there; was impressed- caught quite a stare
She was a-married (to) that dude Uriah
And while he's fighting in a war
David just lies with his girl
Of course, a child is formed- Dave worked for days to force
Her husband and her to lie together- Uriah won't while at war

In the book of (uh) 2nd. (uh) Samuel (2nd. Samuel)
The tryst's found 11 through 12 (There)
In The Bible (in) 2nd. Samuel
Choosing their passions, not God's ways- Dave fashioned
(A) final cover- a murder plot

(Like a soap opera drama)

His name was Joab
He led the fighting
He sent hard-core men to their share- left Uriah fighting there
And he was finished just as Dave ordered
Bathsheba then became Dave's bride
And she bore a son in time
How did this Psalmist dude- God's heart he was after, too-
Fall so much? 'Cause we're sinners from start
Jesus still loves you!

It's not over (no) Not by a long shot (Not by a long shot)
The prophet God sent was Nathan- yeah! (yeah)
When he showed up (yeah)- Told a tear-jerker
Using compassion, riled up- Dave's empassioned
For the poor man who lost his lamb
(Nathan told a parable)
(Rich man stole from the poor man)
(You are the man, Dave!) (Ahh! x5)

Bird in the hand's- yeah-
Worth two in the bush.... (Drink from your fountain!)

Lurid lust passions sent David's life crashing

His name is mud, yeah- Lead in the tabloids
While Dave kept dirty deeds shadowed, when Dave's Youtube channel's shown
It'd be a fiasco- wives sleep with others
All Israel is viewing those
David's feathers ruffled?- No
He sits there so contrite- "I've sinned against The Lord"
Though God forgave him, he lost the baby
Then he sought The Lord

So there's hope for (hope) totally all of us (totally all of us)
The Father's wrath poured out on Jesus (He's)
Son of David (read) Matthew 1:6- yeah
Using Dave's actions, God made good despite sin
But the moral's- Don't fall to lust

Don't fall in lust
(Chapter 11)
(Of 2nd. Samuel)
(Don't fall to lust- yeah!)
(Don't fall- Don't fall to lust- yeah!)
(Don't fall to lust- yeah!)(x5)

(and fade)
